GaGa Incubates @ Grammy's

Grammy Awards?

Not if you live the the Haus of Gaga ..

What one persons red carpet moment that makes all of the hard work possible, is another's opportunity for a red carpeted piece of performance art.

Gaga didn't even walk the red carpet (at least her red carpet outfit can't be slated by the fashion police) - she was carried in in an incubator! She was eventually Born (This Way) for her performance.

I love this woman. She is one evolving piece of performance art that makes me proud to be a little monster!

Haus of Gaga's Nicola tweeted from the Awards last nite:

.. Gaga is in incubation. Tonight's performance is in collaboration with Hussein Chalayan and House of Mugler ..

Chanel Couture Hair Inspiration

Chanel Spring 2010 Couture

I couldn't help when looking at the Chanel Spring 2010 Couture Collection - aside from the absence of Lagerfeld's usual inclusion of black in the collection - was the distraction from the collection to the hair styles of the models.

Who inspired the hair styles Chanel?

Gaga perhaps?

Gaga Barbie

Barbie spent 2009 being pampered and given designer looks by the likes of Christian Louboutin so it is unsurprising that the premiere of 2010 brings with it the premiere of another look for Barbie.

Barbie's latest has transformed her into Lady Gaga.

The look has been met with both praise and criticism.

Seasonal Style Icons

When you are asked who your style icon is, could you instantly answer one person? I am aware that some individuals have one and only one style icon that influences and inspires their style. However I am also aware that our style icons today either change regularly or we have more than one.

For fashion conscious open minded women who have icons for style there has been on occasion more than one influencing them. If I think back to the past year and who has influenced style in 2009 there have been multiple contenders. Dependent on the time of year there is a certain type of woman influencing styles.

For instance, during the summer the music world clashed with the fashion world throughout festival season. The UK festival bills were undoubtedly ruled by female artists and pop queens. Lady Gaga along with Lily Allen and La Roux – to name a few - were not only influencing our lives with their music but also with their style. Their unforgettable individual style inspired many through outrageous hair and clothing left to us fashionista’s to individually recreate. The female festival line up simultaneously became a style icon line up.

The arrival of autumn welcomed with open arms the start of fashion weeks across the world’s various fashion capitals. Twitter ceaselessly reported from the shows who was there and what they were wearing, as a result confirming that the world’s eyes were evidently not only on the new collections but who wore what to each of the shows.

Each season and event delivers fashion forward icons to influence our style. Fashion is like a sport which we are devoted to and the designers in a way are akin to the sporting teams. The world of sport and fashion do occasionally cross paths; through a sporting event we are provided with fashion savvy individuals ready to step up to the podium and take the gold medal for their inspirational and inspiring iconic style.

One such sporting event which will undoubtedly reward a gold medal in iconic style is the FIFA World Cup which will be held in South Africa in 2010. Along with the international talented footballers competing for the success of winning the most important trophy in football for their country, comes their families and most importantly their wives and girlfriends.

During the last world cup in Germany in 2006, the wives and girlfriends of the football players were as big a focus in the press as the players themselves. Football fans were treated to pictures and analysis of the games, fashion fans were treated to pictures and analysis of the style of the wives and girlfriends. Two of those who undoubtedly had a significant influence with fashion were Victoria Beckham and Cheryl Cole. Their glamour and style were inspirational and catapulted them to winning the style icon podium place. Both women continue to inspire, from gracing the front covers of major fashion publications to designing their own clothing range, and are forerunners in influential fashion and maintaining their style icon status.

So South Africa 2012 – who will be the conquer all and become the season’s style icon?

Watch this space.

Continue to be open minded with your style icons.

Blood Passion Lust Fashion

My sister in law came to stay some time last year and she seemed somewhat distracted. She kept disappearing only to be eventually found lying on her bed reading a new book that she ‘could not put down’ – she had read it on her two hour journey as well but couldn’t hold human contact without her mind wandering and eventually herself to the book and opening it once again. She finished the book over the weekend she was staying and left it with me as a must start now must read. I started the book after she left, not entirely convinced and resigned myself to it being a ‘slow starter’. Fortunately it was and once I was a few chapters in, so my obsession began with the book, the concept, the passion, lust, vampires and Stephanie Meyer. I started with her first book “Twilight” and since beginning can’t put any of them down whether reading them for the first time or third time. The concept of the living dead is a craze that can’t be escaped in culture today; the Twilight series, True Blood and the recent death of Michael Jackson has welcomed a return of Thriller and his Zombie entourage in the music video. The living dead are now glamorised, oozing sex appeal and lust and a fascination with the mysterious and gothic.

Lady Gaga is one such disciple demonstrating the ripple effect vampire and blood and black through her outrageously funk original flamboyant style. If any recent image of her is aroused from memory, her attire for her performance of “Paparazzi” at the VMAs in September stands to mind. She salutes the celebration of this fascination with extreme fashion and even adapts gothic chic with her black lipstick which we have caught sight of on more than one occasion. It’s not only the music world dressing to the tune of vampire gothic style; the fashion world has gotten out of its bed and into its coffin to embrace the ripples of the living dead.

As the Spring 2010 collections were unveiled from New York to Milan some designers showcased with bright colours, a trend we anticipate for the season. On the other hand a risk was taken with a colour we would more regularly associate with winter. Rodarte and Dolce and Gabbana both applied black to their collections suggesting the fashion world’s approval of the new trend with lustful vampire and gothic sex combination. Fashionistas throw your head back and let the fangs of this new trend bite into you and ooze some gothic chic into your own style!
